Search for "order management software" and you'll find dozens of tools. Many are built for stores in other countries, where customers pay online and one national courier does everything. A Pakistani Shopify store works very differently: cash on delivery, several local couriers, WhatsApp everywhere, and returns that can quietly eat your margin.
So instead of a list of brand names, here's what actually matters when you choose, and how to test it before you commit.
1. It must be built around cash on delivery
This is the biggest difference. For a COD store, the most expensive problem isn't shipping, it's parcels that come back. Look for:
- Automatic order checks: incomplete addresses, wrong-looking phone numbers, duplicate orders.
- Customer history: a customer who refused parcels before should be flagged on their next order.
- Hold before booking: risky orders should wait for a call, not get booked by default.
- COD vs prepaid: the system should know which orders are cash on delivery, so prepaid orders aren't charged again at the door.
If a tool doesn't mention COD at all, it wasn't built for you.
2. It connects to Shopify properly
- New orders should arrive on their own within minutes, not once a day.
- Products and customers should come in too.
- Orders you take on Instagram, Facebook or by phone should go into the same list.
- Ideally, it updates Shopify back: marking orders fulfilled with the tracking number.
3. It books your couriers, on your account
Ask which couriers it books with today, not "soon". Then check:
- You connect your own courier account, so your rates and COD payments stay yours.
- You can book many orders at once and print all airway bills in one PDF.
- It can make the load sheet for pickup.
- The order status follows the parcel without you checking the courier portal.
4. WhatsApp is built in
Pakistani customers reply on WhatsApp, not email. Look for:
- Order confirmation with Confirm and Cancel buttons that update the order.
- Shipped and out for delivery messages ("keep the cash ready").
- Messages in English, Roman Urdu or Urdu.
- Clear rules on which number messages come from, and what they cost.
5. It handles failed deliveries and returns
- A list of parcels the rider couldn't deliver, so you can act the same day.
- A way to scan returns in when they arrive.
- A list of parcels the courier marked returned but you haven't received.
6. It tracks COD money from couriers
You should be able to see, parcel by parcel, which delivered orders the courier hasn't paid for yet, record each courier payment with their charges, and spot short payments.
7. It helps the warehouse, not just the office
- Packing check: scan the airway bill and each item to catch wrong items before the box is sealed.
- Rider handover: scan parcels as the rider takes them, so nothing goes missing in between.
- It should work with a phone camera, not only expensive scanners.
8. Team permissions
A packer shouldn't be able to change orders or settings. Check that you can give each person only the access they need.
9. It works on a phone
Many owners run their business from a phone. Try confirming, booking and sharing an airway bill from your phone during the trial. If it's painful, your team won't use it.
10. Pricing you can understand
- A monthly price based on how many orders you ship.
- Ideally, every feature in every plan, so you don't hit a paywall the day you need returns tracking.
- A free trial on your own orders, without a card.
- Check what costs extra (WhatsApp messages usually do, since Meta charges for them).
Questions to ask in a demo
- "Show me a fake-looking COD order being caught."
- "Book ten orders with my courier and print the airway bills."
- "Show me a parcel the rider couldn't deliver. What do I do?"
- "Where do I see returns the courier says are returned but I don't have?"
- "How do I see what my courier still owes me?"
- "Can my packer pack and hand over parcels without changing orders?"
- "Can I do all of this from my phone?"
A good tool shows you each one in a few clicks.
Red flags
- Couriers you use are listed as "coming soon" with no date.
- No free trial, or a trial that needs a card.
- Important features only in the most expensive plan.
- No support in your time zone or language.
- Shopify orders arrive late or need manual imports.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best order management software for Shopify in Pakistan?
The best one is the one built for how you sell: cash on delivery, your couriers, WhatsApp and returns. Use the ten points above and test it on your own orders during a free trial.
Do I need an OMS if I already use Shopify?
Shopify takes the order. An OMS handles what comes after: checking, confirming, booking, packing, tracking, returns and COD money. Most Pakistani stores need both once they ship more than a few dozen orders a day.
How much does order management software cost in Pakistan?
It varies by tool and by how many orders you ship. invertbyte starts at Rs 3,499 a month with every feature included. WhatsApp messages are usually charged separately.
Can I switch later if it doesn't work out?
Yes. Your orders still live in Shopify and your courier account is still yours, so you're never locked in.
